84. Your goal is Your Guru

Qn: There are many self-styled Gurus, Gnanis, imagining themselves to be realized, accept disciples, raise hopes and when they fail, rebuke the disciple by saying he did not try enough.

Ans: Your question flows from 3 false assumptions: 1. that one needs concern with others; 2. one can evaluate another; 3. progress of the disciple is the task and responsibility of the Guru.

Qn: Is surrender to Guru enough?

Ans: Total surrender, relinquishment of concern with one's past, present and future brings a new dawn, full of love and beauty. The real is meaningful.

Qn: Who is a real Saint? How to make out?

Ans: You cannot, unless you have a clear insight to the heart of man. Be the right man, then the right Guru will find you. Do not look for your Guru. Make your goal the Guru.

Qn: I expect by Guru's grace, I shall be happy, powerful and peaceful.

Ans: What ambition. These are personal states and imply exclusivity, which is fragile and insecure. The Guru and the disciple are one single thing.

Qn: Can one realize Self without a Guru or is a Guru essential?

Ans: Until you realize yourself, you cannot know who is your real Guru. Do what he tells you.

Qn: I do not know if my guru is realized.

Ans: If you have inward growth, he is your Guru. God's name repeated is Sattva. Rajas and soon Tamas will wear out. The Guru is timelessly present in your heart. Sometimes, He externalizes himself and comes as an uplifting, reforming factor.

Keep alert, give attention, enquire, investigate, discover your mistakes of mind and body and abandon them. Investigate the very idea of the body. A body without a mind cannot be my body.

Body depends on mind, mind on consciousness, consciousness on awareness. Virtues and powers come with realization, not before.
