51. Be indifferent to Pain and Pleasure

Qn: I am a French man, practicing Yoga for 10 years. I find Sadhana difficult.

Ans: What is your procedure for clearing the mind of the unnecessary?

Qn: Man is like carrying a bomb going to explode without power to defuse. Always frightened.

The Hindu mind is Sattvic, but the European mind is always restless.

Give a Hindu an idea and his emotions are roused. With the westerner, give him an emotion and he will produce an idea. Your ideas are attractive intellectually, but emotionally I don't respond.

Ans: Set your intellect aside. Don't use it in these matters. My Guru told me 'Trust me, I tell you- You are divine'.

Your joy and suffering are divine. I did not condition my mind I am God, I am wonderful etc. There is only one mistake you are making. You take the inner for the outer and the outer for the inner.

Your search for happiness makes you miserable. You yourself are God, the Supreme Reality. Dwell your mind on "I am", " I know", " I Love".

Stop your routine of acquisitiveness, looking for results and the freedom of the universe is yours. Rely on clarity of thought, purity of motive and integrity of action.

If you seek the immutable, go beyond experience. When the mind is in the natural state, it reverts to silence spontaneously after every experience or rather every experience happens against the background of silence.
